The Royal Ascot race event was founded by Queen Anne in 1711. It is held each year at Ascot Racecourse, in Ascot, Berkshire, England. Royal Ascot is one of Britain's most famous race meetings and the most popular race event in Europe, with over 300,000 visitors per year. It attracts some of the world's greatest race horses, jockeys and trainers, with around 30 races over the five days.
Royal Ascot is attended by the Queen each year along with other Royals - the royal carriage famously makes the journey from Windsor Castle each day during the event. It is world-renowned as a glamourous fashion spectaculour, with Ladies' Day, and its extravagent hats, as the sartorial focal point. As such, it is broadcast to audiences all over the world, with fashion receiving at least as much attention as the racing!
Race-goers have the choice of three levels of tickets: Silver Ring, Grandstand and the Royal Enclosure, with the latter being the most exclusive. The Royal Enclosure often makes world news with changes to its strict dress code.
